“Making awkward poses look intentional since 1989.”

Portrait style photography can happen anywhere—downtown Nashville, on top of a mountain, or toes-in-the-sand at the beach. It all comes down to poses, lighting, angles, backgrounds, and yes… a little post-production magic (because no one needs that random photobomber in the background).

Sometimes it’s one person striking their best “serious model face,” sometimes it’s a family so big we need a headcount, and sometimes it’s just their pets (and let’s be honest, the pets usually behave better than the people).

The beauty of portraits is that it’s really about you. It might be a boudoir session in the studio, a family gathering in the park, or senior photos in the middle of an urban jungle. My job is to nail the pose, coax out the perfect expression, and catch that just-right lighting—because that’s what turns a simple photo into a portrait you’ll actually want to hang on the wall (and not hide in a drawer).

Families

Posing families for photos can be… let’s just say, interesting. Personally, I love the big group shots—because nothing says “challenge accepted” like arranging a small army into a picture-perfect pose. The largest group I’ve ever tackled? A bride, a groom, and their 36-member bridal party. (Yes, 36. At that point, I felt less like a photographer and more like an air traffic controller.)

Family dynamics always add a little spice, too. There’s always that one sibling muttering, “She’s touching me!” or the uncle who insists he has a “good side.” But that’s the fun of it.

These sessions are all about posing—adjusting heights, turning angles, positioning arms, tilting heads just right. To the family, it might feel weird and awkward—like a giant game of Twister in fancy clothes—but through the camera lens? It looks amazing.

Infants & Children

When photographing kids, you instantly become an expert on attention spans—or more accurately, the lack of them. Posing? That usually goes right out the window. With kids, it’s all about the expressions: the smiles, the giggles, the “I just stuck my tongue out when I wasn’t supposed to” moments.

Whether they’re climbing a jungle gym, splashing in a creek, or even bouncing around a studio, the real magic is in their faces and their eyes. That’s where the story lives.

And trust me—I don’t just stand behind the camera barking orders. I’m usually right there with them, clicking away while hanging on the monkey bars, dodging swings, or pretending I definitely meant to get splashed during that water fight. Because when kids are having fun, the photos practically take themselves (and I just try to keep up).

With babies, photo sessions are an absolute breeze—they always look good. Eyes open? Adorable. Eyes shut? Peaceful angel. Laughing? Pure joy. Drooling? Still cute. Sleeping? Picture-perfect. Crying? Honestly… still melt-your-heart adorable. You just can’t go wrong—babies have mastered the art of being photogenic 24/7.
