One of the things I love most about being a photographer is that I never quite know where the next assignment will take me. Sometimes it’s a corporate event, a professional sporting event, or a wedding halfway across the country. And sometimes, I get to experience two completely different worlds in the same day.
This was one of those days.
Bright Lights, Broadway, and a Little Nashville Fun
My morning started in downtown Nashville with Yitzy and Leah, a couple visiting from New Jersey who were experiencing Music City for the very first time.
And what better way to experience Nashville than with a photo shoot? We wandered along Broadway, explored Printer’s Alley, and stopped at some of Nashville’s famous honky-tonks, including Redneck Riviera and Acme Feed & Seed.
There was live music, plenty of laughter, and no shortage of colorful backgrounds. We even made our way to the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge for some wonderful views of the city.
The
great thing about photographing a couple in a place like Nashville is that the city practically becomes another character in the photographs. Between the neon signs, the music spilling out of the bars, and the energy of Broadway, there was something interesting around every corner.
And Yitzy and Leah were having a blast.
But as much as I love downtown Nashville, my next assignment was going to be a little different. Okay, a LOT different.
From Honky-Tonks to Horse and Buggy
One minute I’m photographing a couple surrounded by live music and honky-tonks on Broadway. A few hours later, I’m standing outside a little country church, watching a horse and buggy go by and trying not to step in something the horse left behind.
Welcome to the other side of Middle Tennessee!
I knew I was getting pretty far out into the country when my GPS finally threw up its electronic hands and said, “You’re on your own, buddy.” Fortunately, I found the church. And what a wonderful little wedding it turned out to be.
A Little Country Church and a Lot of Love
The afternoon’s wedding was a beautiful reminder that love doesn’t come with an expiration date.
This was a couple who had found love again, celebrating with a small gathering of family and friends at a simple country church near an Amish community.
There weren’t hundreds of guests, elaborate decorations, or 15 bridesmaids and groomsmen. There were just two people who wanted to get married, surrounded by the people who mattered most to them.
And really, isn’t that what a wedding is supposed to be about?
Of course, the bride looked absolutely beautiful in her wedding gown, complete with a gorgeous, flowing train. Between the lovely countryside, the beautiful light, and a couple who were clearly delighted to be getting married, we captured some wonderful images.
It was the kind of wedding that reminds me that you don’t need a grand ballroom or a huge production to create beautiful memories. Sometimes all you need is good light, genuine emotion, and two people who are crazy about each other.
Behind the Lens with Brody Hall
Two couples, two very different photo shoots, and one unforgettable day.
That’s one of my favorite things about being a professional photographer. Regardless of where I was, my job was exactly the same: to photograph people enjoying some of the best moments of their lives.
